"SOCIAL MEDIA: FIVE (5) RULES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA SANITY" By Ashley Grace Emmert & adapted by Dimka Philip

It’s a big, big world out there. Big and wide. Don’t get lost in it. Ashely wrote that: “ I didn’t have a cell phone, even for texting, until I was 17, and I got my first smart phone at 26. I’m just saying, I was a teen only nine years ago, but the things teenagers have to deal with and navigate now are   way   different from what I dealt with in the very recent past. Luckily, as a twenty-something adult I am just as obsessed with social media as the average teenager, so I’ve had time to navigate the cool new apps and social media sites over the past few years”. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and all the rest are fun, and a great way to connect with friends. But they’re also kind of tricky. “I remember messaging with a boy from my high school, and, because it wasn’t face-to-face and felt more hidden, having semi-inappropriate conversations that would have horrified my mother if she’d ever found out about them. These were conversations I would   never   have had in perso

SOCIAL MEDIA & INTERNET: THE PRIVACY FLAW OF OUR TIME

Image
Excited as we might be about the many opportunities afforded us by the advent of the Internet and Cyberspace, including the Social Media Platforms, it comes with many ills. The Internet has so become relevant to today’s life that it is considered a unique  unequaled  tool in bettering the work life of man. But it has not been without serious concerns if we examine it closely. It’s easy to count the blessings of having this all-time life revolutionary tool, but the cost is adverse. For me, arguably, the chief of all these concerns is the privacy breach that it has introduce to our world. In as much as the internet and all these Social Media platforms serves us greatly, we have been lured into a trap we might not be able to get away from in the nearest future. The Internet is a global network connecting billions of computers in over 190 countries, which are linked to exchange data in different forms using the instrument of the web. As of August 12, 2016, according to Internet Live S

THE EFFECT OF SOCIAL MEDIA: WHY YOU SHOULD USE YOUR HARDCOPY BIBLE MORE INSTEAD OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES

As the World digs deeper into its expression of life using Information Communication Technology & the Internet, we have seen these advancements rub on every area of life even the Christian life. After the previous articles about whether or not we must use ebibles, I have been greeted by several feedback some for and others against. It is pertinent therefore, that we understand the issue at hand. Using these devices is not a sin (I believe some readers would want this to be stated clearly); but how we employ their use in relation to our faith is the contention we have. That is the crust of our concern.  I have sat in worship services and observe how first I struggle to manage the use of my device and most especially how young people never mind their dealings online even in the very presence of God. My basic question is first, where is your hard copy Bible? Why do you find it hard to use it regularly? Aren’t you concerned you are gradually building an unhealthy habit? That asid

MY THOUGHTS ON: PURPOSE, DESTINY, AMBITION, & ANOINTING.

One's PURPOSE is the reason for his/her existence; the original specific assignment attached by the Creator to one's life, which becomes his/her contribution path in life. This [purpose] in turn leads one to his/her end which becomes their   DESTINY. Destiny is therefore one's designed ultimate end in life. As in where the sum total of their purposeful living will take them, in this life & beyond. Or, what their purpose is meant to achieve in life.   ANOINTING is God's oil, Presence or seal upon a man for living his life assignment [purpose] in other to fulfil their destiny. It’s God's endorsement of a man that causes him to function supernaturally where God plants them.   AMBITION , in turn is what a man pursues; that which is usually of his own will and that which he seeks to achieve FOR HIMSELF. It’s possible to make God your ambition, therefore using it to pursue purpose…into destiny. On the pages of Scriptures with find purpose & destiny brought

SOCIAL MEDIA: THE “DURING CHURCH WORSHIP” EFFECT PART II

The contention that God has with the young people in this age as regards Social Media use is the matter of addiction and nomophobia and how it interferes with our worship of God and other personal devotional activities that draw us closer to the Cross. To begin with, I grew up knowing that early morning devotion as the first on our to-do list for the morning, and even last thing before bed. Today, the “busy nature of the World” has changed the matter for most people; it’s now our plans and schedules first before any other and so at night. To add to the struggle, the internet/media age imposes that our smart phones and devices becomes the first thing we interact with early in the morning in order to check our mails, how many likes we’ve got on facebook, messages, etc. and the last thing we use at night. This goes on and on in cycles that form the pattern for our daily lives and interaction. The root of the matter before us is not even a question of whether we bring our devices to

SOCIAL MEDIA: THE “DURING CHURCH WORSHIP” EFFECT

Image
The age of the Social/General media and smart phones, as have already established in previous articles, comes with a lot of great concerns that pierces the heart of the church especially through the Youths who in turn are supposed to be the strength of the church. I have had many deep thoughts about [my] youthfulness, about how I have had to represent Christ, at the same time face many challenges that tend to pierce the core of my desire to ‘pursue Christ’. Any young person honest enough will admit this concern. In the cloud of all these distractions is the social media menace and in the heart of this concern is how the persistent use of the social media can lead to Addiction and Nomophobia (the fear or anxiety experience when in the absence of our mobile devices). Our smart phones and these various social media platform are designed and daily been modified to appeal to and become quickly adaptable to us. The psychology of these mechanisms are intricately designed to alter the minds

Who Am I?

Image
Who am I? Who do you want me to be? For I am as I Am I am everything I pretend to be I am words that see and breath  I am life I am food for gods too sated to eat But ravenously insatiable with appetites only my soul can feed I am a hole abysmally whole Sending shivers through your body down to your sole Like the weather in the North Pole I am depth from its most shallow parts Making pronouncements that hit hard and heal hearts I am an enigma When I speak, my words stick like a stigma I am who you say I am I am who you say I am not I am flaws I am the only exception to the law I am as I Am I am everything I pretend to be Cause everything I am is who I Am designed to make me, as I am... So now Who do you think I am? 26/4/16 11:22 r3d ‪#‎ r3dTheSerialScribbler‬ ‪#‎ r3dsRandomRamblings‬ ‪#‎ ThatNgasGyal‬

THE SOCIAL MEDIA AND CHRISTIANS: A WORTHY MATCH OR NOT?

I have received a lot of feedback from readers fairly across the six (6) geo-political  zones we have in Nigeria and I must say it is encouraging to still find that a lot of  people are reading & are concerned about how the social media affects our life and  the Church of God, even in today’s cyber-active society. A lot more needs to be  done. But that’s not the point, here it is: the common concern that has risen by  means of fair statistics from the received responses, is the perception that it seems  we are against the social media/networks and have ignored its appreciable  contributions. But how can we preach against a thing and employ its use?  It is of utmost importance to highlight that this is not the case here and has never  been. Thus, I do not advocate abandoning of the social media and other media  platforms as if they hold no importance or advantage; rather the proper & diligent  use of them. “They remain tools, not th
